Welcome to IAS Atmospheric Research Center

The IAS Atmospheric Research Center (IAS ARC) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a cross‑disciplinary research center dedicated to advancing climate‑risk science for tropical coastal cities.

IAS ARC traces its origins to the mid‑2000s, with the establishment of an Atmospheric Research Center at Nansha, Guangzhou, supported by HKUST seed funding in partnership with the Fok Ying Tung Graduate School. Building on core strengths in air‑quality and weather modelling, remote sensing and policy analysis for Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta, these capabilities have since been consolidated as today’s IAS ARC.

IAS ARC now serves as a platform for regional and global collaboration, bringing together leading academics, global institutions and operational stakeholders to address fundamental gaps in the prediction of extreme weather and climate hazards in the tropics.
